FALSE ADVERTISEMENT! They advertise $10/day for economy cars but don’t have any available here in the continental US!!! I’m going to another company due to the FALSE ADVERTISEMENT!!! FRAUD!
Fraud, scheme, thieves, double charge my prepaid car rental booked by priceline. The Payless car rental employees are trained to rip-off customers through their premeditated tactics, intentionally mark your pre-paid reservation as a no-show and take out a new contract and charge the rental fee all-over again. Then their customer service goes around tactics to delay, even generate new receipts that are fraudulent. Their customer service email line generates an already programmed response to reject your evidential documents. Do not ever rent a car from this company.

I rented the car with a full tank and delivered it the same (full) however they charged my credit card an extra $ 99.00. I made the claim and they told me that I have to show them the ticket from the gas station where I fill the tank, as we were coming back to our home we throw away the receipt as we rented a car before and has never happened to us, I see this very strange since the person who was receiving the cars checked that everything was fine and also checked that it was delivered with full gasoline and told us that everything was fine. Now they don't want to refund the charge that was made to my card. This for me is a robbery because if their agent already checks that it is okay, why do they have to need a proved from us? Bad Service, I will never rent a car again from Payless.
Reserved a vehicle a month prior to my arrival in San Diego. When I arrived at the Payless counter there was a long line and only two agents. The gentleman (scammer) that assisted me with my reservation apologized for the long wait and stated he was going to upgrade me because of this. He stated it would be at $19 per day. Which was great because I booked at $23 per day. When it was time to acknowledge the charge to my card I discovered it was an additional $19 per day on top of the $23 I booked. He never stated this. This is a SCAM. When I called him out on it he put me back in the car I originally booked and said I must have misunderstood what he said. BE CAREFUL!!! Will never use them again!!!!!
Payless are thieves. My flight was changed so I would arrive after payless counter was closed. (6 PM) So I called to let them know I would pick up my car the next morning. There answer to me was your new price will be $1400. So I will be charged extra for using the car less. Talked to a manager and there is nothing he could do. Didn't want to work with me just wanted the extra money. So I had to pay them $50 to cancel the reservation. I am fine with paying them the $50 dollars just so I don't have to deal with these thieves anymore. They were a total A$$ to me on the phone. I went with Enterprise and WOW very professional.

I never had such a bad experience with a rental car agency. The worst ever. They look professional from the outside but are not at all professional. Their main aim is to make some big profit from the clients.
As we checked the car when we got it, we had to add plenty of scratches that were not recorded and the agent didn't seem to be honest about it. As we returned the car, the light in the back had a little crack, and we were charged to replace the whole light. They charged us a very high amount for insurances we didn't want but told us this was the smallest price we could get although we could have declined it. This information we didn't get from them but found out after paying. Read everything very carefully and take pictures of everything before taking the car. Or better, don't go with Payless
The ABSOLUTE WORST...
I travel a lot for work and I can say without a doubt that this rental car agency was the sleaziest I've ever rented from.
I reserved my car thru Priceline 2 months ahead of time and when I got to the counter to get my car, the agent (his name was Rudy) lied to my face repeatedly and tried to rip me off by adding roadside insurance without my knowledge nor consent.
He tried the usual sales tactics (i.e. you should upgrade to a Mustang, etc), but when I made it clear all I was interested in was what I had reserved, he decided to instead lie to my face multiple times to get me to spend more:
- Lie #1: Rudy told me that they didn't have my vehicle type avail (economy car) and that I should upgrade to an SUV. They had exactly my vehicle type I'd come to find out when I actually got to the car.
- Lie #2: Rudy told me my insurance (State Farm + insurance thru Visa) wouldn't cover me. I politely informed him that I've rented ~12 cars in the past year and that I know for a fact that I am covered.
- Lie #3: When I got to the end (after signing all the forms) I was presented with a bill that was much higher than what I reserved it for on Priceline. When I asked Rudy if this amount was the same as my original reservation, he told me "yes, this is the rate that your originally reserved it for." So I pulled up my Priceline confirmation email that had the original price & showed it to him. He then tried to tell me that Payless has a policy to always include Roadside Assistance. When I asked him if RA was optional, he tried to confuse the situation by saying that it's a store policy thing that they always include. I continued to press the issue for several more minutes and made it very clear that I DID NOT WANT ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. He finally caved in and went back to remove it from the contract and made me re-sign everything.
I got the contract to match the price of my original reservation and when I went upstairs to get my car, I saw they had a ton of vehicles exactly like mine. To say I was pissed would be a huge understatement. I also found they had messed up my paperwork and listed a completely different vehicle and Rental Agreement number on the damage form.
This place preys on unsuspecting customers and will lie, cheat, and steal from you to get into your wallet. 100% the sleaziest rental car agency I have ever dealt with - avoid this place like the plague. Your wallet and blood pressure will thank you.
Useless car rental agency. Payless dropped my car reservation after two hours. My airline flight was late arriving into San Diego. This Payless is located at the San diego airport and they should be well aware that flights are frequently late. I was told they had larger rentals but the charge would be twice as much. My initial online rental was about $190 and they offered me the larger for over $390. I took my business elsewhere. Never again will I use Payless.
Payless is very unprofessional. I’ve been waiting a supervisor to call me since January 1,2021 it’s now January 6,2021. I’m trying reach upper management due to being charged for a cleaning fee when there’s no reason to be charge a cleaning fee.
Scam read the contract before you rent
They charge me 1k for 24 hours
I called my bank to dispute the payment and my bank say the contract say additional $500 add to any rental one way ((be aware be aware ))) if you sign that’s it ..
$200 cleaning fees
$100 to fill the gas ⛽️....those are scams scams
They may be the cheapest option at the counter but beware of hidden fees.
I travel with my softball team 10-15 times a year and we always rent a passenger van. I hang a large trash back in the back so that trash can be collected. Most drop off locations have a trash recepticle to throw said bag away. Las Vegas Payless did not.
I am now being charged a 479.00 cleaning fee according to Robert Agent 38030 who says the trash was everywhere, and being refused the right to speak to a supervisor. I dont know if the check in guy gets a kickback for fines assessed and why in gods name it took them 30+ days to fine me. I will be disputing the charge until i reach the president of the company if i have to.

This has been the worst car rental experience! I reserved an SUV for a trip from Las Vegas to California and was given a Mitsubishi Outlander, while it is a cute tiny car it is absolutely NOT what I requested there is no space in this tiny car! Once packed there was NO BACKSEAT space. We are a family of 5. When I called to let them know how unhappy I was I was told they had nothing else availble by e representative who frankly sounded as if he could care less I then spoke to a supervisor who could provide no other options forca dissatisfied customer. I will be disputing this charge and will NEVER EVER use Payless Car Rental!!!
I wish I would've read the reviews before I reserved my vehicle.....I will NEVER use Payless again. I was in line for close to 2 hours. The representative that finally assisted me was helping me and another person that skipped everybody. He told me my vehicle was small for 16 days! I told him that the vehicle that was shown to me was a midsize vehicle. He went on to tell me it was a hatch back and I should make sure I read the description. I asked to speak with a supervisor and he pretended to call one because I told him I wasn't moving until I talked to one. He ended up giving me the midsize vehicle. He then sent me to a stall that had a 3rd row SUV which was the wrong stall. I went to complain and the supervisor gave me an upgrade, but she totally defended his nonsense and never apologized for the unprofessionalism. I was very disappointed with the service.
